Two successful debuts do not establish a sustained recovery, but they provide an encouraging confidence boost for investors and companies considering an IPO.

City Therapeutics Inc (CTY): Tight Allocations Drive a 24.4% First-Day Gain

City Therapeutics, Inc. (CTY) priced 11.1 million shares, upsized from 9.72 million, at $18.00, the midpoint of its indicated range. The offering raised approximately $199.8 million in gross proceeds, excluding any underwriters’ option, with the share count increasing approximately 14% from the original proposal. City opened at $23.00, producing a 27.8% gain at first trade. That combination—an increased offering size, midpoint pricing and a substantial opening premium—suggests the transaction balanced the company’s capital-raising objectives with an attractive entry point for allocated investors.

According to our sources, the offering was multiple times oversubscribed, with allocations described as “tight.” Approximately half the book received no allocation, underscoring the gap between submitted demand and the shares ultimately distributed.

Management was heavily involved in the allocation process, and the final ownership distribution was exceptionally concentrated: the top five accounts received approximately 65% of the deal, while the top 10 received approximately 90%.

City traded as high as $23.88, up 32.7% from its offering price, and as low as $20.50, still 13.9% above issue. Shares closed their opening session at $22.40, delivering a 24.4% first-day return.

Iambic Therapeutics Inc. (IAM):Iambic Finds Its Rhythm: AI Drug Developer Climbs 18% in Debut

Iambic Therapeutics, Inc. (IAM) priced its full-size offering of 9.375 million shares at $16.00, the midpoint of its $15.00–$17.00 range, raising $150 million in gross proceeds before underwriting discounts and expenses.

The stock opened at $16.15, representing a modest 0.9% premium to the issue price. That opening print also marked the session’s low, as buyers immediately stepped in. The subsequent advance included a brief trading halt, with shares eventually reaching $19.70, or 23.1% above the offering price.

Iambic finished its opening session at $18.91, gaining 18.2% versus the IPO price and 17.1% from its first trade. According to our channel checks, the offering was north of five-times oversubscribed, with orders on the cover of the prospectus representing approximately 40% of the deal.

The stock traded even better in its second session and hit a high of $25.00 before closing at $23.81 or 48.8% above the issue price.

Our assessment is that the quality of this week’s offerings was materially better, and the aftermarket results reflected that distinction. The IPO market currently has nothing on the active calendar however there are a few biotech candidates that could launch on Monday and debut on Friday — notably Bambusa Therapeutics, Inc. and Lycia Therapeutics.

Biotech IPO investors received a welcome dose of relief this week as both Iambic Therapeutics (IAM) and City Therapeutics (CTY) finished their debuts comfortably above issue price.
